[S1E3] Camp Rules ((TOP))
Ravi discovers that Jorge has stolen the rules in hopes that the old Ravi would come back, not the power-tripping citation writing one. Ravi steps up and makes things right, just as Emma and Zuri do when they are forced to work together to rescue their rescuers.
[S1E3] Camp Rules
Out in the wilderness, the group comes across a dark section of forestry, and Nerris attempts to sense magic by rolling her die. A small group of squirrels arrive, led by one that's wearing an eyepatch, and Nerris continues to worry. Nikki "speaks" to the squirrels, who of course don't understand, and they pounce on the campers to attack. Neil trips and falls as they attempt to get away, and Nerris saves him by calling a Magic Missile attack (ie: throwing a bunch of dice at them) and coldly asking if anyone else wants an ass-kicking. Harrison points out that it was a dick move, but they beat a hasty retreat before the angry vermin decide to return. Some time later, the group encounters a cave entrance into the side of the volcano, which Harrison doesn't want to enter because it's dark and unsafe. Still they press on, with Neil a tad uncomfortable by the hordes of dead canaries along the ground, before reaching a small elevator at the end of the cavernous hall. Suddenly, the ceiling begins to collapse, starting at the entrance and barreling towards them. Neil's attempts to start the elevator fail, and Nerris wails that she's out of spell slots for her levitation spell. Harrison channels his energy and yells "LEVITATE!" while slamming the button, which somehow successfully activates the elevator. Nerris grumbles over his victory as they are lifted to safety.
Now at the mouth of the volcano and staring directly into the boiling magma, Neil cravenly states they should just head back to camp now. Of course, both Nerris and Harrison are determined to quell the dark spirits with their magic and prove their superiority to each other. Nerris clasps her hands together and begins speaking giberish, as thundering clouds gather above her. She then calls out "DARK FORCES BEGONE!" and Neil immediately realizes he can't see anymore, which she concludes is due to her spell of kindness backfiring into a spell of blindness. Harrison makes his attempt by placing a small handkerchief upon the ground and making that small square of dirt magically disappear, believing he can eventually make the whole volcano vanish with enough time and effort. Lava geysers begin shooting up as the volcano begins rumbling quite violently, and the pair begin pointing fingers and saying the other sucks. Nerris concludes that the only way to prove which of them is superior is to have a magical duel, right at the mouth of the volcano, and Neil's pleas for taking care of the impending natural disaster fall of deaf ears. Enthralled, Nikki asks Neil if he's seeing this, and he stumbles around shouting that he'll hit her for that remark. The pair square off at opposite ends, and Harrison shoots red lightning while Nerris fires a blue beam of energy. Nikki notices that the eyepatch-wearing squirrel from earlier has appeared beside her, and it jumps on her face to attack. Blindsided, she tumbles into the magma pit, but manages to save herself by catching a ledge with her hand as the squirrel is pulled under. She calls out for help, and Harrison realizes that the "dark forces" Quartermaster had mentioned earlier were within them this whole time, and that they ought to work together to save the day.
They disengage from the fight and rush over to help Nikki, reaching down to her as she flails around to try and grab onto them. The small ledge under her other hand breaks, and Nikki falls dramatically into the magma, which is only mildly disappointing to Nerris and Harrison. While writing in the burning ooze, Max casually walks right up to her and asks what the hell everyone's doing. The scene suddenly reverts to the group back at Camp Campbell, with Nikki "drowning" in an inflatable kiddie pool filled with pudding and Neil stumbling around wearing a blindfold. The eyepatch squirrel leaps out of the goo and rushes off into the forest, and Max irritably tells them to keep it down because he's trying to win all of Nurf's bullying money. David arrives with Quartermaster, scolding the campers for using tomorrow's intended pudding for their playtime, and Nerris apologizes for getting carried away with their quest. Sleepy Peak Peak rumbles violently once more, and Quartermaster seems genuinely shocked that they didn't restore balance to the dark forces as he had instructed. The campers are a bit stunned, and Neil plainly states that they didn't take his word seriously since they're just kids, after all. The volcano then promptly erupts, shooting a powerful geyser of lava into the air. With a careless shrug, Quartermaster simply says "hmph, end times" and stalks off.
As they depart from camp, Neil and Nikki discuss what they would do "on the outside." Nikki hopes to be raised by a pack of wolves and pee on stuff, while Neil says he'll play his parents' affections for him against each other. However, when she proceeds to offer the same question to Max, he is distracted and concerned, suspicious of where they are heading. Although Billy claims to be taking a "shortcut", the camera reveals that the boat they're sitting in is emblazoned with "PROPERTY OF THE WOOD SCOUTS". Upon this discovery, Billy ambushes Max and stabs him in the back with a sharpened candy cane. Startled, Neil and Nikki attempt to backpedal. Nikki is soon tossed overboard by Billy as "NO GIRLS ALLOWED!" (referring to the policy of the Wood Scout Camp). Seeking assistance from Neil, Max manages to restrain Billy for some time; however, Neil is nowhere to be seen, presumably leaping overboard himself in attempt to retrieve Nikki. Billy regains control and forcefully jabs Max in the face. Battered, Max spits that Billy never left the Wood Scouts, and indeed, Billy confirms that his vow was to show others the glory of the Wood Scouts.
A captured Arondir is dragged into an Orc prison camp and beaten, with one Orc saying he is for "Adar". Arondir is reunited with his fellow Elves from his watchtower and finds they are being forced into slave labour.
Unsurprisingly, Professor T has advice to offer. In fact, he has three golden rules of hostage negotiation. First: give the criminals what they want. These situations seldom turn out well. Sparrow dismisses him.
The situation defused, Christina tells Professor T he must go home sometime. Pointing to a suitcase in her office, he says the same to her. She admits that she and her husband have agreed to spend some time apart. He explodes and tells her that he knew they would never be happy; she responds that there are golden rules to relationships as well, and Professor T never gave her what she wanted or told her the truth, but he did convince her the situation was hopeless.
The "Volcano" episode was in production when South Park debuted on August 13, 1997. Comedy Central executives did not object to most of the content of the episode, but said the scene in which Kyle farted while talking to Stan should have been removed because nothing happened after the fart, and they said it was not funny. Parker and Stone, however, insisted it stay in the episode, and they said the lack of any reaction whatsoever to the fart was what made it funny. During close-ups of Cartman's face while telling the story of Scuzzlebutt around the campfire, the flames from the fire stop moving. Parker and Stone noticed the consistency error after the episode was filmed, but they did not have enough time to go back and fix it before the broadcast date, so it was left in. A cat featured in the background of one of the outdoor scenes was designed to look exactly like Parker's cat, Jake. The scene in which Ned catches fire was based on an experience Parker had during a Colorado camping trip where he tried to do an "Indian Fire Trick", in which one pours gasoline onto a fire to create large flames. Although nobody caught fire, Parker said the trick misfired, and he nearly burned down the forest. After finishing the episode, Parker and Stone realized "Volcano" was about two minutes shorter than the time length required for the episode. In order to add time to the episode, Parker and Stone added the scene with Ned singing the song "Kumbaya" around the fire, as well as the long freeze-frame on a shocked Chef and Mayor McDaniels reacting to the news of the volcano's imminent eruption.[1]
The start of the episode introduced us to Jeff Zausch of "Naked And Afraid" as well as Yul Kwon, Malcolm Freberg, and Earl Cole, who all got their television start on "Survivor." After being told the rules of the game, they're given the first clue.
Sadoc takes her to task in front of everyone. One Harfoot says that their laws say that anyone who breaks the rules is going to be "de-caravanned," which is Harfoot corporate-speak for let go. Sadoc says they can stay, but their cart will be at the back of the caravan, which is bad news because of dad Brandyfoot's injury.
SOUTHLANDS -- When we last left Arondir, he was getting dragged off in the underground tunnels in the Southlands. It should be of little surprise that orcs were behind that, and they're still dragging him around. He's in some strange work camp/trench place covered with a shabby canopy. One orc says something about someone named Adar. They chain Arondir up and put him to work digging. Quickly, he recognizes some of his elf comrades like Watchwarden Revion and another named Médhor.
In the premiere episode, the Ross kids arrive at camp. The camp's owner, Gladys, is even scarier than the legendary creature that's rumored to stalk the grounds. With the help of her sneaky niece Hazel, she's out to get the Ross kids because of her decades-old rivalry with their mom.
Zuri secretly keeps her cell phone beyond the allotted time, which puts Emma in a tough spot. Meanwhile, Ravi and Tiffany are duped into making a cell phone tower that is hidden in the new camp totem pole. 041b061a72
